Copper Brown Henna from ColorLab

This is my review of Copper Brown Henna from HCL. I can not tell you how excited I was when I got home today. So excited my product arrived, I couldn't wait to get my grubby little self covered in it.

It comes in these cute little foil packages, complete with everything you need to get going. Gloves, shower cap, and henna. I have always used another brand  that you have to cure overnight, but this from HCL is mix and go!! Only water, no tea, vinegar,or lemon juice. HOOOORAAAAY!!!

Let's get started with henna:

This is my review of Copper Brown Henna from HCL. I can not tell you how excited I was when I got home today. So excited my product arrived, I couldn't wait to get my grubby little self covered in it.

It comes in these cute little foil packages, complete with everything you need to get going. Gloves, shower cap, and henna. I have always used another brand  that you have to cure overnight, but this from HCL is mix and go!! Only water, no tea, vinegar,or lemon juice. HOOOORAAAAY!!!

Let's get started with henna:

5:30PM

I got my ceramic bowl and wooden spoon, emptied two packs of henna in the bowl and started adding hot (not boiling) tap water till it became the consistency of thick pudding.  You have to make sure to only add a little water at a time so that the mix does not end up soupy. The henna immediately started turning a reddish-brown. So far so good.

6PM
I applied to clean dry hair by using the "glopping" method (sounds very glamorous I know). I made sure to rub in to my scalp and roots well and work my way down the small sections of hair, applying generously and massaging into full length of my hair as I went along. After each small section I piled my hair on top of my head and globbed more henna on top and mushed it around. I did this till my entire head (and shirt, neck and ears) were covered. I made sure to remove the excess off of my skin as I went along, but unlike the other brand I had used before, this henna has serious staining power. I am not complaining as I never felt the other brand covered like it should so this should turn out awesome!!

I am going to have to try some methods for getting it off of my skin though because I currently have some staining which is not flattering at all. That's not the fault of the product, that's my inexperience with superior product.

Put on the included shower cap (Thank you Henna Color Lab for not making me use plastic wrap) and am settling in for 2 hours.

8PM
It's the moment of truth. I went to the shampoo bowl, put on new gloves and began to rinse with hot water. It seriously looked like mud coming out of my hair. It was very colorful. I rinsed till the water ran clear, removed my gloves and added my conditioner. Left the condish in for 3 minutes and rinsed again. Finished with a cool water rinse.

I wrapped it in a towel to absorb excess moisture and then went in to blow dry my bangs because this girly girl has a serious cowlick.

8:30PM
My hair looks absolutely freaking amazing!! The color is a deep rich reddish-brown, almost black and feels like heaven.

Follow up:
The dye came off my skin with little effort. I used soap, water and elbow grease. Some stains remained, but they are so light, I'm not going to bother with them.

My hair feels and looks fantastic. Better color than I ever got with Rainbow Research.  The color is rich, dark and full of vibrant red highlights. My hair is shiny, healthy, and soft.

So my review summary is this:

Pros:
Great price
All needed application implements included (henna, cap, gloves)
Fast shipping
Immediate dye release (vs other brands that have to cure overnight)
Fantastic coverage
Great gray coverage
Only 2 hours to color (vs 3-6 hours with other brands)
Awesome color (I used copper brown)
Leaves hair very healthy and well conditioned
Customer Service is unbelievably helpful (thanks Sally!!)
Lots of colors to choose from
Easy to mix up
Simple to apply even by yourself
100% natural

Cons:
Have to wait for it to come in the mail (small con)
Stains skin very quickly (unlike other brands, but it's easily removed from skin)

Would I recommend this to others? YES
Would I purchase this again for myself? YES
Would I use the same color again? YES, but there are so many to choose from, I can't say I will never use another color.
Would I recommend HCL over other brands? YES
Would I recommend it for people with gray hair? YES

This experience with Copper Brown from Henna Color Lab has changed the way I color my hair forever!! It's far superior to other products I have used (not to mention the horrible chemical dyes I have used)and can't ever see myself going back or using anything other than HCL products.

If you are thinking about using something natural for the first time, looking for a natural alternative to store bought DIY commercial hair dye or are looking to change brands, please give HCL a try!! You will not be disappointed. Visit Henna Color Lab to see all of the amazing blends and color choices. They have a gorgeous website, with tons of useful information and lots of help.

Update 01/04/2017 Below is a photo of the color of the henna once it had dried. Its actually from another post, but this was from one of the last times I did color with henna.
