I did a lot of reading and found some great ideas for homemade coconut milk shampoo. I decided to make a variation of my top favorites and it turned out great.

I keep coconut milk frozen in little one ounce patties. This way it keeps way longer than just in the fridge. They have been calling my name for a day or two and I've used it in the past but it was a bit heavy in my hair. Left me a bit oily the next day, but I am very stubborn.

Homemade Coconut Milk Shampoo

½ Cup of organic coconut milk
2/3 Cup of Dr Bronner's Castille soap (Almond)
1 tsp organic coconut oil
1 tsp Vitamin E oil
1 TBSP Baking Soda
I defrosted 4 of the one ounce patties till they returned to their liquid state by boiling a small pan of water, taking it off the burner and placing a glass container in the pan with the coconut milk patties and let them sit till completely defrosted.

I scooped out my organic coconut oil and left it on the counter to melt.

I mixed the vitamin E, Dr Bronner's, and Baking Soda in a container.

Once the coconut milk had defrosted and the coconut oil had melted. I added these two ingredients to the above ingredients and gave it a good shake.

I headed to the shampoo sink, I couldn't wait to try it out.

UPDATE: I have used this again a 2nd time and it works much better after it has sat for a day or two in the fridge. I did have to warm it up with hot tap water. I filled a measuring cup up with hot water and placed my bottle of shampoo in it till everything became liquid again. Gave it a good shake and it was very creamy, huge lather and it's even more amazing than the first time I used it. I'm hooked!!

I have fairly long hair and it only took a very small amount to lather up. It felt very interesting. Sort of like my usual No Poo squeaky clean I get from Baking Soda, but with great suds. Ahhhhhh, sudsy shampoo bubbles, GLORIOUS!! I washed and rinsed.

It did have a slight oily feeling, but not heavy, very hard to describe.

I rinsed with my Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother followed by a cold water rinse.

I gave it a quick COOL blast with the hair dryer and it looks and feels great.

I added 5 drops of argan oil to the ends after it was mostly dry, because this girl NEVER skips out on her argan oil!!

Not oily! Not Heavy!

Just clean, shiny, lots of volume and soft beyond words (homemade coconut milk shampoo is awesome!). I will be using this for a while to see if I have found "The One". I tried the beer shampoo and it works great too, but the sudsy bubbles and the girly smell of this is just too good (and my dad and husband as generous as they are, may get tired of loosing their beers in the name of good hair!!) Seems like now they won't have too!!

Feel free to give it a try. I read mixed reviews, but for me, it worked fantastic. A fraction of the cost of store-bought, chemical laden shampoo. It all natural and smells great!! There is something so satisfying about making this homemade coconut milk shampoo, the smell, the way it feels, the way it cleans, I am hooked.

Ask questions or let me know how it worked for you.

Peace, love and all thing terrific,
